I first read this book back in 2012. It was just as good the second time around and works really well as an audio book. It is a book that can wear many hats – gay for you, abuse and coming out are just a few topics it covers and covers well.

I suppose if you work with someone day in and day out, especially someone you trust your life with, you expect to get to know them pretty well. When Kurts Police partner Ben is killed in the line of duty the illusion that he knew the man he worked with is shattered. In his grief he realises the man was a virtual stranger.

Ben was not only gay but had been living with his boyfriend for 10 years. These facts leave Kurt reeling but also with an overwhelming feeling of responsibility to Davy, Bens partner. The deceit of this relationship runs deep with Bens carefully constructed mirage of normalcy bordering on abuse as far as Davy is concerned. In ten years Davy has lost his friends, his vibrancy for life and himself in an effort to keep Bens secret...
